So This Is The New Year

2011 was rough.
It felt like a trial, where we were faced with every possible obstacle.
In 2011, we said goodbye to our life together in Paris.
I packed up our beloved Parisian apartment and moved back at my parents while husband moved away to Canada.
We spent most of our first year of marriage separated.
In 2011, husband slaved over his dissertation.
In 2011, I turned 25 without the love of my life.
I filled out pages and pages of immigration forms, in hopes of getting a one year visa.
I waited for an answer for weeks with a knot in my stomach, praying everyday to be granted that permission to just be with my husband.

I got the best news of the year this morning, when a one year visa was granted to me.
It might sound like nothing, but I had good reasons to believe I wasn't going to get it.
One year is the beginning of many more, I hope.

This allows me to start dreaming again. I had completely stopped hoping and dreaming about a possible future life in Canada, for fear of jinxing things, of being too heartbroken if it didn't work out.

I can start going forward. I can start making plans again.

2012 is going to be a great year. Anything can happen.

A move to Canada?
A baby?
A move to Ohio?
A new job?

Who knows?
I don't. But for the first time in months, I feel almost serene.

Bonne Année 2012
